Innovation, like entrepreneurship, is a concept that has been incorporated gradually strongly in the national economy. A sample of their importance is the emphasis imposed by the State through Corfo, an organization that has launched several programs in this regard.

In recent years, Corfo has created programs that seek to enhance the interest of companies on innovation and entrepreneurs, who are gradually risking themselves and ingenious products.

The key arguments why to promote innovation are: the importance of this to increase productivity and transform Chile into an exporter of technology and not merely of natural resources with low value added.

According to the latest National Survey on expenditure and personnel in R & D, designed by the Innovation Division of the Ministry of Economy and the National Institute of Statistics (INE), spending on R & D in the country would be equivalent to 0, 39% of GDP, lower figure and very far from the 2.4% that spend an average of the countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

"In Chile our companies do little innovation. We are far from the standards of the OECD, there is even a downward trend (...) technological innovation and innovation in R & D, is not in the business strategy of our companies, "says Eduardo Bitran, EVP Corfo.
